Update: I'll settle for KO's question to HRC about Scaife

Mon Apr 21, 2008 at 04:57:45 PM PDT

Update: It's over, he didn't ask the 9/11 question I was hoping -- and the interview was taped before my diary. So I'm a dumbass! Not that I expected it to have an impact...just getting something off my chest. But he did ask about Scaife, which was a much better question, and I've uploaded video (see end of diary).

I realize it's a bit late to be writing this diary -- Hillary Clinton's interview on Countdown is about ten minutes from now.

Still one of the things I'd really like her to explain is why she is exploiting 9/11.

I'm not talking about her new fear-mongering ad released today.

I'm talking about what she said last week about Bill Ayers, Barack Obama, and 9/11 during last week's debate.

Here's what Clinton said:

I also believe that Senator Obama served on a board with Mr. Ayers for a period of time, the Woods Foundation, which was a paid directorship position.

And if I'm not mistaken, that relationship with Mr. Ayers on this board continued after 9/11 and after his reported comments, which were deeply hurtful to people in New York, and I would hope to every American, because they were published on 9/11 and he said that he was just sorry they hadn't done more.

Now the thing to understand is that Ayers' comments were published on 9/11 -- which means they were actually made before 9/11. Indeed, the paper that was published on 9/11...was actually sent to the presses on September 10.

In short, there is absolutely no connection to 9/11. None.

Any mention of it is a propaganda trick to try to make the supposed Ayers-Obama link more sinister than it really is.

It is, in short, the political exploitation of the 9/11 tragedy.

One of the questions I'd like to see Hillary asked is why she mentioned 9/11 in the first place. Why did she find it acceptable to exploit a national tragedy?

The other line of questioning is whether she was in fact "hurt" by Ayers remarks because they were published on 9/11. When did she first learn about the remarks? Was it just this year? Was it really more painful to hear once she learned they were by a cruel twist of fate published on 9/11?

Or did she lie when she said they were "deeply hurtful to people in New York...because they were published on 9/11"? (Edit: I can't imagine any New Yorker -- or American -- paid much attention to the article on 9/11 after we were attacked.)

I realize this diary is a bit too late to make an impact, but if I could ask Hillary a question, that would probably be it.

Update: Keith did ask a tough question about Richard Mellon Scaife, which I'm uploading now.

While I upload it, you may be interested in this footage from "The Hunting of the President" talking about the The Arkansas Project and Scaife:

Update 2: Here's Keith's question about Scaife. It's actually a better question than the one I had hoped to see asked. Needless to say, I am not satisfied with her answer -- not at all, given that she attacked Obama on Jeremiah Wright during the Scaife editorial board.
